About the Ragdoll
The Ragdoll is a large, semi-longhaired cat breed developed in the United States in the 1960s. They are named for their endearing tendency to go limp when picked up — like a ragdoll — reflecting their exceptionally calm and docile temperament. With striking blue eyes, color-point patterns, and silky coats, Ragdolls are among the most beautiful and gentle of all cat breeds.
Ragdolls are famously relaxed and affectionate. They follow their owners around the house, greet them at the door, and enjoy being held. They are not particularly athletic or active but enjoy gentle play and human interaction.
As one of the largest cat breeds, Ragdolls have a very slow growth rate — they don't reach their full size until 3–4 years of age. Their large, muscular frame means a healthy adult Ragdoll can weigh significantly more than average cats without being overweight.

Keeping Your Ragdoll at a Healthy Weight

- Switch to adult maintenance feeding at full maturity, as their caloric needs decrease.
- Encourage daily play with wand toys and interactive games — Ragdolls need motivation to exercise.
- Provide climbing structures and perches to encourage movement throughout the day.
- Weigh monthly — their fluffy coat can easily hide significant weight gain.
- Feel along the spine and ribs: you should feel bones without pressing; if you can't, it's time to cut calories.
