About the Bengal Cat
The Bengal cat is a striking hybrid breed created by crossing domestic cats with the Asian Leopard Cat. Known for their wild, exotic appearance — featuring spotted or marbled rosette patterns, glittery coats, and muscular athletic builds — Bengals look like miniature leopards but have the temperament of domestic pets.
Bengals are highly active, intelligent, and curious cats that require significant mental and physical stimulation. They love to climb, explore, and even play in water. Without adequate enrichment, they can become destructive or loud.
Due to their athletic build, Bengals tend to be lean and muscular. They are not typically prone to obesity, but sedentary indoor Bengals can gain excess weight without proper diet management. Their active nature means they generally need slightly more calories than less energetic breeds.

Keeping Your Bengal at a Healthy Weight
- Feed a high-protein diet — Bengals thrive on meat-rich food that mirrors their wild ancestors' diet.
- Provide multiple play sessions daily — wand toys, puzzle feeders, and climbing structures.
- Consider a raw or wet food diet; Bengals often do better on high-moisture foods.
- Avoid free-feeding; even active cats can overeat when food is always available.
- Weigh monthly; their lean build means an extra 300–500 g is a meaningful amount.
- Their short, dense coat makes it easy to feel rib coverage — you should feel ribs without pressing deeply.
