Dog Socialisation And Training Tips

Socialisation and training are often treated as separate tasks, but they're actually deeply intertwined. Many dog owners assume their pup will naturally learn how to behave around other dogs and people—or that training should happen in isolation, away from distractions. The reality is far more nuanced.

Early socialisation (between 3 and 16 weeks) is crucial for building confidence and reducing anxiety, but it works best when paired with gentle training. Exposing your dog to new environments, sounds, people, and other animals teaches them that the world is safe—but only if you're there to guide them with calm, consistent cues. A well-socialised dog still needs to learn basic obedience to navigate social situations appropriately. Training in varied settings, not just your living room, helps your dog generalise what they've learned and apply it in the real world.

The key is consistency and patience. Short, positive training sessions in different locations—parks, cafés, friend's gardens—build a confident, well-adjusted companion who can handle life's surprises with ease.
