Cat Indoor Enrichment Activities

Cats are intelligent, curious creatures who need mental stimulation to stay happy and healthy. Indoor cats especially benefit from enrichment activities that tap into their natural hunting, climbing, and play instincts. A lack of stimulation can lead to boredom, destructive behaviour, and even anxiety.

There are countless ways to keep your indoor cat entertained. Interactive toys like feather wands, laser pointers, and treat-dispensing puzzles engage their predatory instincts. Vertical spaces are essential—cat trees, wall shelves, and window perches give them territory to explore and observe their surroundings. Rotate toys regularly to maintain novelty, and dedicate 10–15 minutes daily to active play sessions. Food puzzles and slow feeders turn mealtime into mental work. Window access lets them watch birds and outdoor activity (known as "cat TV"). Consider clicker training for tricks, or introduce a second cat if your pet is social. Even simple cardboard boxes, paper bags, and crinkled paper can provide hours of entertainment. The key is variety: combine climbing, hunting, foraging, and social play to create a rich, stimulating indoor environment that keeps your cat engaged and content.
