Cat Hydration & Water Intake
🐱 MYTH vs FACT: Cat Hydration Edition
MYTH: Cats don't need much water because they're independent and get moisture from their food.
FACT: Cats are notoriously poor drinkers and need consistent access to fresh water. Unlike dogs, they have a weak thirst drive—meaning they won't always drink enough, even when dehydrated. This puts them at risk of urinary issues and kidney disease.
The fix? Fresh water bowls in multiple locations, water fountains to encourage drinking, and wet food as a hydration boost. Most cats need 50-60ml of water per kg of body weight daily.
Tracking your cat's water intake might seem tedious, but it's one of the easiest ways to spot health issues early.
